James - Age 10

Hi,

My name James.

I am 10.

I was diagnosed in october 2012 with occipital lobe focal epilepsy.
I have undergone several tests including mri’s, eeg’s, audio processing etc etc.
I struggle every day to hold concentration and focus on things.
I also has autism,
visual and audio processing difficulties,
mild tourettes and struggle emotionally and socially.
There is a 2 year gap in my development in education too.
My epilepsy is controlled by lamotragine.
I still have frequent abscenses though.
During some seizures my head turns to the left and my eyes are shaky.
I can then becomes unconsious for a period of time.
When I come round again I have no clue where I am.
Or what is around me.
I also cannot remember what I had previously been doing.
I usually sleep between 2 and 24 hours after a siezure.
I failed my road safety and cycle assesments at school.
I was devastated!
Epilepsy makes me feel very different from other children my age.
Some kids call me weird.
They even pretend they are allergic to me 🙁
My mum and dad treat me very normally though.
They are very proud of me 🙂
